Saint Mary's Invites Community to Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Gathering

Saint Mary's Regional Health System invites the community to gather for A Light for Every Life: Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Gathering on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Depot Park in Russellville. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to anyone who has been affected by pregnancy or infant loss. 

Created as a space for remembrance, connection and support, the gathering will honor babies lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, neonatal loss, ectopic pregnancy or loss following a complex diagnosis. Families, friends, healthcare workers and community members are welcome to attend. The event is open to all, regardless of where they received care. 

"Loss like this doesn't have a timeline, and it doesn't end when families leave the hospital," said Nicole Sweet, co-facilitator of Saint Mary's Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group. "Many parents carry their babies in their hearts for years without having a place to speak their name or share their story. We hope this gathering reminds families that their babies are remembered, their grief matters and they are not alone." 

Families will receive a candle and remembrance item and will have the option to share their baby's name for inclusion in the evening's candle-lighting ceremony. During the event, names will be read aloud with permission from families as candles are lit in tribute to each life. The program will also include a welcome, a moment of silence and prayer and opportunities to connect with others who understand the journey of loss. 

In addition to honoring babies and supporting families, the gathering seeks to raise awareness of pregnancy and infant loss and connect attendees with ongoing grief support resources available in the community. Organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition of remembrance and healing for families throughout the River Valley.
