Saint Mary’s Prepares for Weekend Winter Weather

January 21, 2026

With winter weather expected in the River Valley this weekend, Saint Mary’s is taking proactive steps to ensure continuous patient care and support for staff.

“We’re committed to remaining fully operational for our community, no matter the weather,” said Casey Willis, CEO of Saint Mary’s. “Our teams are preparing now to make sure patients continue receiving safe, reliable care.”

As part of its response, Saint Mary’s has activated its 96‑hour readiness plan, which guides hospital operations during extended weather events or supply disruptions. In alignment with this plan, the hospital has implemented several key preparations:

  • Overnight accommodations for staff, including on‑site sleeping areas for those who may not be able to travel

  • Stocking essential supplies, such as medications, equipment and food resources

  • Adjusting staffing and department plans to maintain coverage across all patient care areas

  • Preparing facilities and grounds for ice and snow, including using 10,000 pounds of ice melt to keep entrances, walkways and ambulance access clear

  • Seven contractors engaged to keep hospital and Medical Office Building parking lots accessible

  • Diesel fuel topped off in the underground storage tank to ensure full generator capability

Saint Mary’s will continue serving the community throughout the winter weather, backed by the dedication of staff whose steady commitment ensures uninterrupted, compassionate care.
