TeleNICU Technology Enhances Critical Newborn Care at Saint Mary’s
June 26, 2025

Saint Mary’s Regional Health System is proud to be one of only six hospitals in Arkansas equipped with the TeleNICU program, a powerful telemedicine tool that connects local care teams with pediatric neonatologists at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for immediate, real-time support.
Launched in 2022, TeleNICU uses a mobile cart with a high-resolution camera, speaker and monitor to provide secure, HIPAA-compliant video consultations with board-certified neonatologists. This technology enables rapid critical care assessments—often within minutes—so even the most vulnerable newborns can receive specialized care without delay.
“For families, having access to this type of care right here in Russellville means peace of mind during what is often a very stressful time,” said Morgan Keeling, MSN, RN, CPN, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Saint Mary’s.
Recently, Ashley Lynch, M.D., a pediatric neonatologist and assistant professor of pediatrics at UAMS, collaborated with the team on a complex case. Morgan shared that Dr. Lynch was, “the most encouraging and calming presence. Every nurse, obstetrician and pediatrician involved was impressed by how seamlessly she worked with our team. Her real-time assessment and calming presence made a lasting impact on both the care team and family.”
TeleNICU allows neonatologists to virtually examine infants, monitor vital signs, review diagnostic imaging and communicate directly with bedside teams and families. In some cases, this support may prevent the need for immediate transfer, keeping newborns closer to home during critical moments.
In 2023, Saint Mary’s joined the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Nursery Alliance—a statewide initiative focused on improving neonatal outcomes through shared expertise, education and clinical collaboration. This partnership, along with the adoption of advanced tools like TeleNICU, reflects Saint Mary’s commitment to delivering innovative, high-quality care close to home.
As Saint Mary’s celebrates 100 years of service to the Arkansas River Valley, programs like TeleNICU exemplify its enduring dedication to compassionate, family-centered care at every stage of life.
