Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s volunteers contribute many hours of service and financial assistance to the facility. They supplement the services of the hospital staff in many ways and can be identified by their name tags.
Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s volunteers are located at the front entrance of the facility. They welcome our visitors with a warm greeting and offer assistance to each visitor if needed. The volunteers provide a variety of assistance to the patients and visitors at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. They personally deliver letters, packages, flowers, and newspapers to patients each morning.
The volunteers operate Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s gift shop, Compliments, which is located on the first floor just past the main lobby. Compliments carries a full line of flowers, plants, toiletries, notions, stationery, toys, games, jewelry and other unique gift items.
Compliments is a non-profit organization, and all proceeds go to a nursing scholarship fund. Telephone orders are welcome and one of our friendly volunteers will personally deliver your gift to your loved one. The gift shop is open Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gift shop is closed on Sunday. Teen Volunteer Program
Summer Junior Volunteer Program
Students interested in pursuing a career in a medical field can apply to participate in Saint Mary’s Summer Junior Volunteer program. High school and college students age 16 and older are invited to submit an application which can be obtained from Saint Mary’s Switchboard each year during late spring.
Participating teens complete a six hour orientation that includes HIPAA patient privacy laws, infection control, professional conduct and customer service. Each Junior Volunteer is trained and certified to transport patients by wheelchair.
Typically, each teen contributes four to five hours each week performing such duties as escorting patients and guests, wheelchair escort of discharged patients, materials and lab transport, and department-specific duties. At the end of the summer, each Junior Volunteer will be awarded a certificate for the number of hours he or she has contributed.
