Teen Volunteer Program
Summer Junior Volunteer Program
Students interested in pursuing a career in a medical field can apply to participate in Saint Mary’s Summer Junior Volunteer program. High school and college students age 16 and older are invited to submit an application which can be obtained from Saint Mary’s Switchboard each year during late spring.
Participating teens complete a six hour orientation that includes HIPAA patient privacy laws, infection control, professional conduct and customer service. Each Junior Volunteer is trained and certified to transport patients by wheelchair.
Typically, each teen contributes four to five hours each week performing such duties as escorting patients and guests, wheelchair escort of discharged patients, materials and lab transport, and department-specific duties. At the end of the summer, each Junior Volunteer will be awarded a certificate for the number of hours he or she has contributed.
